This season the group’s programme includes not only old favourites from stage and screen but also classics, such as Cesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus.

The group also performed a medley from the show The King and I, crenscendoing with I’ve had a love of my own.

Comperes Sue Murphy and Robert James introduced all the songs, as well as the evening’s soloists, nearly all choir members.

Norbert Wyatt performed Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust, while singer Derek Smith serenaded his wife Lesley with Some Enchanted Evening.

Brian Timms duetted with Kathy Graham on the piano with a performance of Scott Joplin’s Easy Winners.

Kathy is the choir’s official accompanist and she was praised by the U3A for the ‘excellence and sheer hard work involved in the role’.

Retiring collections were made for a local charity and the concert was devoted to Nelson Mandela.
