Songs from the past

Pam's People are five ladies who love to sing.

The recently formed group perform favourite and familiar tunes from past decades and hope to "present something for everyone to enjoy".

They have entertained in Little Common twice already, offering a selection of well-known songs so the audience feels happy to listen and also join in.

The founder is Pam Filbey, from whom the group takes its nostalgic name.

Pam said: "It is a play on words really. We suggested lots of names and then somebody came up with Pam's People - in the end we thought it was catchy and different."

She formed the group in Autumn last year when a contact asked if she knew anyone who might sing at an upcoming Talking Newspaper event.

When she thought about, Pam realised she could start up a group herself and got in touch with other keen singers she knew locally from being in choirs.

They were Thelma Hobden, Brenda Macrow, Jenny Stephenson (all pictured) and Margaret Cox.

"I asked each if they would be interested and they all were...we have all of us been involved in singing all our lives."

"It was very good - we were pleased," said Pam.

"We started off with Bring Me Sunshine, and then Consider Yourself...the whole thing is they are all pretty well-known songs. We want the audience to think - I know that one! We didn't want lots of obscure songs.

"We thought at the time it must be a one-off but since then we have done another one, and we all enjoyed it, so much so we thought we would go on with it.

"As a singing group we just want to be popular. I come back to the phrase "well-known" because it's all about well-known songs."

Pam's People is now available to perform locally and Pam herself is ready to take bookings for summer events - for further details call on 01424 844904.
