Southern has announced that its average fare rise across all fares which comes into effect on Friday January 2 2015 will be 2.1 per cent.
Regulated fares for 2015, which include season tickets, have been capped by the Government at the July 2014 RPI rate of 2.5 per cent, meaning that this year, no season tickets will be increased by more than 2.5 per cent.
The cheapest Southern £5 Advance fares will remain frozen for the eighth consecutive year and many off peak Gatwick Express fares will be frozen at 2014 prices with additional discounts online.
Southern’s Alex Foulds said, “This is great news for those looking for cheap off-peak travel, as we continue to freeze our cheapest Southern online Advance fare at just £5 for the eighth consecutive year.
“Gatwick Express passengers will also benefit as we are freezing many non-season ticket fares on the route.”
