Southern Rail denies Ford closure rumours

A train operator has denied claims that cutbacks could force the ticket office at Ford railway station to close.

Operator Southern Rail has rebuffed claims the station was among 12 sites across West Sussex where the staffed office could be replaced by a ticket machine.

Concerns arose after details of the McNulty Report, which looked at value for money on the rail network, were released by the Transport Salaried Staffs’ association last week.

A Southern Rail spokeswoman said: “The McNulty report makes recommendations for the future for the government to consider.

“Southern has no plans to close any ticket offices.”

However, a new ticket machine will be installed at the station in October.

The machine is one of 156 being installed by Southern Rail across its stations as part of a £3.1m investment.
