Southern Water’s footy shirt day a ‘great success’

Southern Water staff wore football shirts to work to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund

Matthew Wright, the company’s chief executive officer, was one of more than 100 employees at Southern Water’s Yeoman Road office, in Durrington, who took the chance to show their allegiance to their team.

The event raised £800 for the Bobby Moore Fund.

Kevin Buck, who co-ordinates Southern Water’s charitable work, said: “Instead of having our regular dress-down day, we asked staff to support the Bobby Moore Fund’s Football Shirt Friday and it was a great success.

“We were delighted that our chief executive joined in and at the donations collected for this fantastic cause.”

The fund was set up in memory of the legendary player, who died from bowel cancer at the age of 51.

The disease is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK and it affects more than 40,700 men and women each year.

But when caught at the earliest stage, nine out of ten people will survive for more than five years.

Teams from across the globe were represented including Atletico Madrid, River Plate and Chelsea.
