Space sleep-over at Petworth Primary School

More than 70 Key Stage 2 children at Petworth Primary School held a galactic space sleep over.

With the South Downs Dark Skies Festival from February 10-26, this was the ideal inspiration for the space themed adventure. Dan Oakley from The Chichester Planetarium started the experience with a computer generated journey through the stars and the night sky. The children then created pieces of artwork on canvases

While these dried, and to burn off some excess energy, a massive game of ‘Hide and Seek’ throughout the school helped work up everyone’s appetites for sausage and chips from Tasty Plaice chip shop in Petworth. This left everyone replete and ready for ‘Space’ script writing and film making.

After much hilarity and a reflection on the incredibly creative minds at Petworth Primary School, it was time to wind things down a level with a visit from Father Mark Gilbert from St Mary’s Church for a candle lit blessing.

Finally, to end the evening, the hall was transformed to a sea of sleeping bags and 77 tired but happy children watched ‘Home’, a space themed film on the big screen to help everyone drift off.
