Spate of vehicle crime in village

Three vehicles parked in Witherenden Hill in the village were targeted by thieves on June 3.

Two bags containing a mobile phone, paperwork, bank cards and clothing were stolen from an insecure Vauxhall Corsa, while tools were stolen from a motor home.

The thefts happened between 10am and 11.15am.

Meanwhile thieves smashed the front near side window of a Toyota Rav to steal a Stihl chainsaw from the footwell of the vehicle.

And the criminals struck again, just a few days later, stealing an iPod Touch from a blue VW Sharan parked in Burwash High Street.

The iPod was stolen some time between 11.30pm on June 8 and 9am the following day.

Police are urging motorists not to leave valuable items in their vehicles.

Sergeant Paul Masterson, of Battle Police, said: “Some of the vehicles targeted were insecure and some were not but one thing they all have in common is that they all contained items worth stealing.

“With this in mind I want to remind you all to please remove any valuables from your vehicle when leaving it.

“Remove it or lose it”

He added: “Please continue to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour. We rely on you to help us stop these crimes before they happen by providing us with details of those possibly committing or attempting to commit them so never hesitate to contact us.”
