SPECIAL BIRTHDAY BREW

BEER lover Kit Wood was stopped in his tracks when friends prepared a special present for his 50th birthday.

The Lewes Old Grammar teacher met his pals Peter Morris and Paul Wareham at the Gardener's Arms pub in Cliffe High Street where landlord Andy Fitzgerald tapped a brew especially produced in Kit's name.

Ewe Wood, a dark, strong ale prepared by Rectory Ales, the personal brewery of Plumpton Rector, the Rev Godfrey Broster, turned out to be an instant success.

All 68 pints were sold out at the Gardener's and the Brewer's Arms in the twinkling of an outstretched glass.

Said Peter Morris: 'We thought we should give Kit something fitting of the man.

'After all, what do you buy a man who wants nothing? We decided on his own personal bespoke beer.
