Burgess Hill Radio has been broadcasting via the internet and a dedicated app since September 2016, and was granted an FM licence to broadcast in January, this year.

Since then the not-for-profit radio station, which is run by volunteers, has been raising the money for a transmitter and aerial and for the past two weeks has been broadcasting test transmissions on the 103.8 frequency.

Jerry Bradford, station manager, said: “We have been checking the quality of the transmissions and we can be heard loud and clear throughout south Mid Sussex. We truly are bringing a local community run station to the area.”

Steve Bird, programming manager, added: “We spent launch day having as many presenters as possible doing mini versions of their shows to showcase the diversity of the station.

“For those who will be tuning in for the first time they can hear all types of music daytime together with local information about what is happening plus the national and local news and weather.

“In the evening we have specialist shows with interviews from local entertainers and ‘what’s on’ in the area.”
