Mrs Corbett said: “We had talked about setting our own shop for a while and we decided that the time was right.”

The outlet, the only one in the village, opened on July 9.

“As I have lived in Barnham I knew there was a real need for an opticians in the area, so it seemed like an ideal location,” said Mrs Corbett.

The premises, in The Square, used to be a pet shop and has gone through an extensive renovation programme.

“When we moved in the shop was like an empty shell. It was like a blank canvas. We got the keys on May 6 and since then we have not stopped.
