Speech on the Beach returns

The annual Speech on the Beach will be held at Splash Point from 7.30pm to 8.30pm to demonstrate how much fun public speaking can be.

The club, which is part of Toastmasters International, aims to help people overcome their fear of public speaking.

Worthing mayor Alex Harman and town crier Bob Smytherman will be special guests at tomorrow’s Speech on the Beach.

Mr Harman said: “I am looking forward to this event. What better way to find out more about Worthing Speakers Club than right beside our coastline? It will be a fun event and all are welcome to join us.”

Last year, more than over 20 people attended Speech on the Beach, which focused on what people love about Sussex, including a fun impromptu speaking opportunity and some pre-prepared speeches from members.

Club president Andy Gibb said: “We are proud that our Speech on the Beach event continues to be a success.

“Support from town crier Bob Smytherman and the continued support of the Worthing mayor is appreciated. We want Worthing to experience what an amazing programme Toastmasters is and how much fun can be had overcoming the fear of public speaking.”

Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of the month at The Burlington Hotel, Worthing, at 7.15pm.

Members are given opportunities to improve public speaking skills at a pace suitable to their confidence level. The Toastmasters programme offers leadership and advanced public speaking training.
