Adrian Simpson worked in TV for 15 years on programmes including Top Gear, Sky News and Police Camera Action but a desire to spend more time with his family led him to quitting the industry and setting up All Speeches Great and Small.

The former motoring journalist has written speeches for footballers, number one musicians and fellow TV presenters over the past four years.

“I wouldn’t swap it for anything in the world. If you asked me what I wanted to do it would be writing speeches,” he said.

“I didn’t find TV that fulfilling and I didn’t love it but I love my job now.”

The father-of-three is originally from south London and started out test driving cars for magazines before moving onto the small screen.

But the uncertainty of freelance work and the unsociable hours took their toll and Adrian decided to follow his creative instincts and take the plunge.

Adrian set up a basic website and began advertising online with the help of Google Adwords and within 31 days, he sold 31 speeches.

He does speeches for all kinds of situations but prefers wedding speeches for the best man, groom and father of the bride as it allows him to express his passion for humour.

“I’ve always wanted to be funny, but when you’re standing behind a body bag on Police Camera Action, there’s not much scope for being funny,” he said.

“I know what’s funny as I spent a lifetime working out what’s funny and what works by writing scripts for TV.”

Looking back on his former profession, Adrian believes television is one of the most creatively-draining industries as producers do not want to take a chance on a lot of ideas due to the high stakes.

The former A Place in the Sun presenter said he is glad to be out and following his passion with a licence to be as creative as he likes.

Adrian has one of the highest-rated speech-writing companies on the internet which he believes is a key to his success.

“My business couldn’t have existed 10 years ago as people wouldn’t have the trust to do business online but people now are more than happy for a guy in Burwash to write a speech for a guy in Melbourne,” he said.
