Speed camera coming to death road

HIGHWAY Agency staff on Wednesday began installing the new speed camera on King Offa Way.

The move follows several fatalities in recent years on the notorious stretch of road and it is hoped the new camera will encourage drivers to stick to the 40mph limit. The camera is being installed just before the sweeping curve on the west bound carriageway, where a string of drivers have lost control in the past.

Motorists who break the speed limit can expect a fine and penalty points on their licence. The move follows comments by town MP Gregory Barker to ensure the Highways Agency kept their promise of more stringent safety measures.

Last year the Observer ran a successful campaign to install barriers at the roadside.
