Sponsored ‘Sleep out’ returns

WORTHING Churches Homeless Projects are preparing for their annual sponsored ‘Sleep-out’ – an opportunity to experience what it is like to sleep ‘rough’ for the night.

This sponsored event will help raise funds and awareness for the charity which has helped more than 1,000 people in the last year.

Taking place in the playground at Broadwater CofE School, in Rectory Gardens, Worthing, on Saturday, January 31, the event will go ahead whatever the weather.

Hot food is available from 7.30pm and toilet facilities are available throughout the night.

Rachel Blair, WCHP community fundraiser, said: “While the sleep-out is in a controlled environment, past participants have advised what an insight the experience has been and made them appreciate their circumstance. One participant commented they had become more empathetic towards people sleeping on the streets as they don’t have the protection the organised event provides and are not able to get in a warm bed after the night.”

Due to the charity’s work extending into the Littlehampton area, a second sleep-out will be held in February.
