Sponsored toddle at First Friends Nursery

A sponsored toddle was held at First Friends Nursery to raise funds for the special babycare unit at the Conquest Hospital.

First Friends Manager Cherryl Ward commented: "We like to support a local charity and at our team meeting that was one of the suggestions. It is quite likely that some of these children might have attended the unit so it's relevant to everybody."

Just over 60 children attend First Friends Nursery on Barrack Road and they took part in the event either by walking or toddling around the garden, or younger ones were pushed around in little cars.

Cherryl said: "We made it into a treasure hunt as well so they walked round the garden or had a ride around the garden and they had to find objects hidden in the trees, like a big plastic butterfly. They had to tick what they saw on a page, and at the end they found a treasure chest '“ there was a treasure in it for each child, bubbles for the little ones and pencils for the older ones.

"We didn't want to do just a walk, we made it more and it has been fun. They have been dying to do it and waiting for their turn...we took them in small groups. They have found what fun it is '“ raising money has been fun."
