St Barnabas Inca trekkers reach then £100,000 mark

AN AMAZING £100,000 has already been raised by a group of trekkers – before they have even embarked on the fund-raising expedition.

The St Barnabas House Inca team, who are trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in aid of the hospice in May, have so far raised £100,809.

The team’s 35 members have been working hard to raise the vital funds needed to pay for patient care at the hospice, which recently celebrated one year in its new building on Titnore Lane, Worthing.

A range of fund-raising activities, including all-you-can-eat restaurant nights, quizzes, sponsored walks and ghost hunts have helped the team raise the money. Many trekkers are still planning fund-raising events in the run-up to the trek, which will depart for Cusco, Peru, on Saturday, May 19.

St Barnabas fund-raiser, Neil Francis, will be joining the team on the trip and has been fund-raising along with the other trekkers. He said: “To have reached the £100,000 mark is just staggering – thank you to everyone that has supported the team and generously helped us to reach this total. We will travel to Peru knowing that every single step we take is paying for patient care at St Barnabas House. The real challenge is yet to come but I know that we will rise to the occasion and make all of our sponsors and supporters very proud.”
