St Leonards care home praised by CQC inspectors

A care home in St Leonards has been classed as ‘Good’ in all areas by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Staff at Anchor’s Bethune Court in Boscobel Road were celebrating this week after receiving the accolade.

The home, which cares for up to 45 residents, was praised by the CQC in the recent inspection which took place on January 6.

Victoria Willard, home manager, said: “We have worked hard to make Bethune Court a good care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is wonderful. We are proud of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and the high levels of training and support our staff receive.

“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes are the best in the country. We’re so pleased to be classed as a good care home. We’ll be celebrating this success.”

In their report, CQC inspectors said: “People told us they felt safe living at the home. They received their medicines correctly and were supported by enough staff to maintain their safety.

“People’s needs were met effectively and were supported by skilled staff. They told us they liked the food and drink and were given choices in how they wished to spend their time.

“People spoke positively about the management of the service and how they created an open and welcoming service. The registered manager demonstrated an ethos of continuous improvement and had quality assurance systems in place to ensure that good quality care was provided.

“The registered manager had demonstrated a willingness to learn from mistakes and improve existing practices and systems. For example, safeguarding systems had been improved.”
