St Leonards man jailed over machete attack

Leigh Peters, of Essex Road, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court after pleading guilty to the attack on Mann Street which left a 44-year-old local man in hospital.

Hide AdDetective Constable Paul Wren said: “This was a violent attack which left the victim with serious injuries and was no doubt an extremely traumatic experience.
“Thanks to detailed eye witness accounts, the vigilance of the general public and DNA evidence we were able to conduct a thorough investigation.
“I hope the victim will feel that a sense of justice has been carried out with the length of Peters’ sentence.”

Hide AdPeters, 34 and unemployed, was arrested after allegedly forcing the victim’s door down while armed with the machete on September 17.
The victim suffered serious cuts to his neck and hand which required hospital treatment.
Peters was subsequently charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, possessing a knife in a public place, possessing a weapon in a public place, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and dangerous driving.

Hide AdHe appeared at Lewes Crown Court and pleaded guilty to all offences, before being remanded in custody and being sentenced.
He was jailed for nine years with an extension period of four years.
