St Mary's Church, Felpham, is in full bloom

The beautiful displays of blooms in St Mary’s Church recreated the splendour of the natural world.

Autumn, winter, sunlight and moonlight were captured in the arrangements along with rainbows, summer and spring.

The flower festival united members of the congregation, Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society, Felpham Flower Club and villagers in creativity.

Those who took part included worshipper Eileen Anderson.

She contributed two displays. One, in red with gerbera, antirrhinum, gladioli and carnations complemented the church’s William Blake window.

The other – with white chrysanthemums, stocks and irises – perfectly matched a window of remembrance in a darker corner.

She said: “I love flower arranging. It’s so relaxing.

“It’s a real hobby and so rewarding. You can do what you want with the flowers to show them off.”

The annual festive was complemented by the village’s open gardens weekend.

A total of 18 gardens and an allotment site could be viewed by visitors.

Church warden Ann Webster said: “The whole weekend went very well.”

The occasion raised at least £2,000 for the church’s funds and the Samaritans.

Adding to the enjoyment were a 45-minute lunchtime organ recital by the church’s minister, Father Timothy Peskett, and a Last Night of the Proms concert in front a packed audience on Saturday in aid of the Samaritans.
