St Mary's football celebration

Following the success of St Mary's School and College in gaining the Football Association Charter Standard Club and Schools' award, there was great excitement at the Trust's Friday morning celebration assembly when a huge 'bird' arrived with even more good news.

The bird in question was Gully, the Brighton and Hove Albion FC mascot and he was accompanied by some special visitors.

Keveena Mosen, the Sussex County FA Football Development Officer was accompanied by Nikki Richardson from Brighton and Hove Albion's Football in the Community Scheme to present St Mary's Wrestwood Children's Trust with a whole load of equipment including pendants, vouchers and general football equipment.

The reason for their generosity was because St Mary's had won the Sussex County FA Award and were duly entered for the FA South East Region Award which they also won.

As David Cassar, the Principal at St Mary's, was presented with the special plaques, he was reminded by his Head of PE, Mrs Alison Larkin, that this was the second time that St Mary's had achieved this double award.

The award represented the commitment the School and College have in developing football inside the curriculum and through their extra curricula activities with some students and pupils going on to represent the County and the Country.

Mr Cassar said, 'This is an enormous achievement and I am very proud of my staff and the football squads who have worked so hard in reaching such high standards. I am also sure that the people of Bexhill will be just as proud, with one of their schools reaching such high level awards'.
