St Richard's Hospital in Chichester '˜free of MRSA'

There were no cases of MRSA contracted in St Richard's Hospital in Chichester last year.

The Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has declared its centres free of the potentially dangerous flesh-eating bug in 2011.

The trust, which also runs Worthing Hospital and Southlands in Shoreham, said its flawless record of no cases of hospital-acquired MRSA was proof of the top quality care delivered by its 6,500 staff.

“The remarkable achievement is the result of a culture of zero tolerance at Worthing, Southlands and St Richard’s hospitals, which has ensured that the hundreds of thousands of patients cared for by Trust staff each year have been protected from the dangers of MRSA infection,” said a spokesman.
