St Richard's music show

More than 60 young Key Stage Three musicians performed during a 75 minute concert at St Richard's Catholic College.

Families and staff were treated to an entertaining evening which highlighted strong musical talent coming up through the school.

It was an opportunity for the pupils to gain confidence in performing in public, whether as part of a group or as a solo.

The evening began with the college orchestra playing "Three Irish Airs" '“ the suite began with a lovely expressive violin solo from Olivia Holland, the year 11 orchestra leader, and moved on to feature some strong playing by the whole orchestra. Three of the musicians (James Roadknight, Emily Wake and Tim Conneally) moved to electric violins for the lively "Wind that Shakes the Barley."

The rest of the evening consisted of some strong vocal and instrumental solos as well as several ensemble items including the wind band, year 7 choir, year 9 choir, flute trio and a piano and violin duet. An exciting finale saw the pupils joining with five members of staff for a rousing rendition of "Let it Be."

Rebecca Scott, a humanities teacher at the college, took the lead vocal to great applause.

Peter Roadknight, subject leader of music at St Richard's, summed up the evening by saying: "It was a wonderful opportunity for the college to showcase our many talented musicians. Well done and congratulations to all those who have shown such commitment and enthusiasm in performing in this concert. We are very proud of the contribution made to the musical life of the school by such a large number of pupils."
