Stabbing in Haywards Heath

Sussex Police officers have confirmed that a 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with self-inflicted injuries after attacking a 46-year-old woman.

In a statement, officers said: “Police were called to The Oaks in Haywards Heath at 6.20am on Sunday, December 29, to reports of a stabbing inside a home.

“A 46-year-old woman dialled 999 to say she had been stabbed by a man she knew and that her attacker was still inside the house.

“Officers entered the house and the woman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

“A 19-year-old man was taken to the same hospital with self-inflicted critical injuries. He was later transferred to University College Hospital in London.

In the latest bulletin on their condition, both the woman and teenager were described as “stable”.

Detective Inspector David Springett said: “At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident but are keen to speak to anyone who might know anything about what happened.

“Officers are at the scene collecting evidence and speaking to residents about what they might know.

“If you saw or heard anything in the road on that Sunday morning or have any information about the people involved please call us.”
