Instead of their usual unform staff at the district Places for People centres donned a variety of colourful and wacky trousers to raise money for national Wrong Trousers Day.

This was the 11th day run by The Wallace and Gromit Foundation, who support sick children in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.

Staff at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre; The Pavilions in the Park, Horsham; Billingshurst Leisure Centre and Steyning Leisure Centre were encouraged to ‘dress down’ for the day.

Some opted for pyjama trousers while others enjoyed aztec print.

Even the crèche children at The Pavilions in the Park took part in the event last month, and received a certificate each for their participation.

Trampolining classes at the centre saw One Direction and Spongebob Squarepants trousers make an appearance, making the sessions more colourful than usual.

Emma McCormick, general manager at Broadbridge Heath, joined in and enjoyed the event.

She said: “It was great to see so many staff and customers getting involved. It brought a smile to people’s faces, seeing their regular centre staff in crazy trousers and it was brilliant being able to wear pyjamas to work for a change!”

The event raised more than £140 for the charity and was a great success.

As part of Places for People’s ongoing commitment to charity, this is another in a line of events that the sites have hosted.

Others held recently include ‘Ramp up the Red’ for the British Heart Foundation, a 12-hour spinathon for Cancer Research UK and a group of ten women participating in Horsham’s Race for Life event.
