In the report, inspectors said: “People were supported by a staff team with whom they had a positive and caring relationship.”

The report added: “People were treated with kindness, warmth and respect. We saw staff members involved people in light-hearted conversation and were attentive to people’s needs.”

During the inspection, the CQC saw a range of activities ongoing, including shopping, reading and bowling.

Inspectors said: “People and staff were involved in, and kept informed about, changes in the provider’s organisation.

“Regular ‘voice meetings’ were held and attended by people living at The Wheelhouse. It was during these meetings hat people could take part in discussions and hear about any changes.”

The Wheelhouse is managed by Craegmoor and supports people with learning disabilities and communication difficulties, who may also have autism and/or behaviours that may challenge.

Kelly Butchers, registered manager at The Wheelhouse, said: “We are all very proud of this report. We all try very hard to do the best we can for the people we support, so this achievement means a lot to us.”

Sarah Hughes, CEO of Craegmoor, said: “The inspectors have praised staff at The Wheelhouse highly. It is their warm, positive and can-do attitude that really makes this home stand out. I am sure they will keep up the excellent work.”
