COMMUNITY NEWS & REVIEWS: Another notice from the Sussex Police, - Rother District Neighbourhood Policing Team are advising us all to keep our homes secure as possible, - especially during the darker days and earlier encroaching evenings that this winter promises. If possible, fit security lighting, - either dusk to dawn energy efficient lighting that will come on automatically as dusk sets in, or infrared activated lighting which draws attention to movement. Use an automatic time switch on an indoor light, either upstairs or in a room that cannot be peeped into from the road. Change the timing on this switch regularly.Put a time switch on a radio tuned into a chat show, - giving the impression that the house is occupied. Again, regularly change the timing on the switch. Please ensure that all doors and windows, - especially those on the ground floor and to the rear of the building- particularly above flat roofs- are locked and secure. This includes your garage and/or garden shed, as tools and equipment can be used to aid a break-in or be stolen. Use strong, locks & bolts wherever possible. Keep your keys, including your car keys, out of sight & out of reach. Again, if possible Property Mark your valuables with your postcode and your name & house number, bearing in mind that some articles are unsuitable for marking in his way, so take photographs of them, - with a ruler in view to show scale. Many insurance companies will offer a discount on the policy if this has been done. Trim overgrown plants in the garden, so as not to provide burglars a good hiding place. Intruder alarms are an effective deterrent against burglars, but before choosing a system, seek advice to ensure it is the most suitable for your needs. Please remember, - the best defence against burglary is prevention - and for more advice on crime prevention visit www.sussex.police.uk and in an emergency, or if you see a crime in progress, always dial 999.
