ROTHER RAMBLERS: Getting the most out of this ever changing weather of ours will be the members of this popular walking group, and they have two (2) more walks arranged for our enjoyment this week. Walk No: 1 is a mere 5 mile circular stroll around John’s Cross and will take place on Tuesday June 9th when those interested will meet at the car park, near to the old school by the roundabout at John’s Cross - car park entrance to right of John’s Cross Caravan Centre. OS.EXP 124 TQ745211.(Sat Nav N32 5JJ) at 6.45pm. As this will be an evening walk, there will be no picnic stop, but a pub stop near the end, is suggested. Walk No: 2 is a 10.5 mile circular tour, - just a wee bit longer, from Pett Level to Rye and has been arranged for Wednesday June 10th when those who would like to participate will meet at Pett Level OS EXP 124. TQ894138 (Sat NavTN354EL) at 10.0am. This will be a mostly level meander and a picnic lunch is as usual, suggested. STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: Still keeping abreast of their very busy fixture list, the members of the bowls teams have four (4) more matches lined up for this week. The first is an away match against White Rock (w) which will be played on Saturday June 6th at 2.00pm. Match no: 2 is also an away match and the opponents are Ham Street. This match will be played on Sunday June 7th.The third away fixture will be played on Wednesday June 10th against the Observer team at 2.00pm. Rounding the week off nicely will be a match on home ground at the Club Pavilion, Northiam Road, Staplecross on Thursday June 11th when the teams will be playing against Winchelsea. The match will commence at 6.15pm. STAPLECROSS STOOLBALL CLUB: Staying with the ‘sports section’ our very own stoolball team will be playing their own particular brand of sport when the team meet up for the first of three (3) matches to be played this week. On Tuesday June 9th the team will journey to Hooe for an away match starting at 7.00pm. Thursday June 11th sees them play at their home sports ground at the playing field, Northiam Road, Staplecross when their opponents are Pett. This match will commence at 7.00pm. Back on the road again on Sunday June 14th for the Brightling Tournament, and played against various teams played at the Netherfield ground at 10.0am. This is a very exciting and sometimes very energetic sport. If you’d like more information on how to become involved, please contact Pauline on 01580~830570 in the first instance. Spectators are always very welcome and their support is so appreciated, as a cheer and a clap can certainly help the teams along, so please come and support our home teams.

STAPLECROSS INN: Disputing all that is said about sleepy village pubs, the Cross Inn, right in the heart of the village will be hosting another musical event. Taking place on Friday June 5th - that’s TONIGHT - but this time, back by popular demand, will be “Mockinjay”, a great little group. - very popular, and well known locally, this two piece band will start playing at 8.00pm. As always, great food will be served until approx. 9.00pm and every-one will be warmly welcomed. Come along and start the week-end off early at a great pub with a great atmosphere with great company. Another reminder is for the Quiz Night. Booked to take place on Wednesday June 10th.and because this is becoming a rather popular event, tables now should be pre-booked to ensure you can enter your team. If you’d like to join in - but can’t get up a full team, just give Vicky or any staff member a ring and I’m sure they’ll fit you in with other like-minded people. Don’t forget, that delicious food will also be available at a miserly cost of £6:50 per person, so don’t waste time cooking at home, come along a make a really great night of it. This promises to be a great fun evening out, amongst congenial company, - with perhaps a little bit of competitive spirit thrown in, - with superb food, - and no washing up !. Brilliant ! MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICES: Wending it’s way through our little country lanes will be the popular Mobile Library van as it makes it’s appearance in Staplecross on Thursday June 11th. Arriving in Cricketers Field at 1.50pm it will provide the residents a much valued service, before moving away at 2.20pm for Cripps Corner. The Library Van will continue to park on the car park of the White Hart Inn, (-courtesy of the very kind landlady-) when it arrives at 2.30pm and after serving the residents of this little hamlet, will then depart at 2.55pm for it’s last port of call for the day. This service, provided FREE for all residents of our parish, is such a worthwhile and vital amenity and gives all of us living in these rural areas, access to all the services on offer from a main branch library. Please do continue to make use of this service as “ Libraries are more than just Books!”.

EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL: As many of you will know, the next Parish Council will be meeting on Thursday June 11th for their usual monthly public open consultation, but this is a respectful and gentle reminder that the meeting for this month will take place at the HERDMAN PAVILION, in EWHURST GREEN. (Sat Nav TN32 5TB) and will commence at 7.30pm. This is to hopefully, encourage residents that perhaps wouldn’t normally be able to attend, to do so and take part in these procedures. These meetings are open to the public and press alike and allows ALL residents of our Ewhurst parish community to come along and have your say. Together with your own Parish Councillors, there are usually representatives from Rother District Council and East Sussex County Council as well as a representative from the Police Force in the form of our PCSO. You’ll be able to question, query, comment or complain on any or all of the things going on within our parish. We are all here to listen to what you have to say, and perhaps more importantly to what you want to happen ( or not happen !) within this neighbourhood. We are all working on your behalf to make our community a better, safer and happier place to live, work and enjoy being in. Parking will be kerbside, so do please park prettily and safely. Everyone will be very warmly welcomed, so please come along. The Parish Council will revert to their usual venue of St. Mark’s Church room, Northiam Road, Staplecross, for their next meeting in July.

EWHURST,STAPLECROSS & BODIAM GARDEN SOCIETY: ANNUAL ROSE SHOW: You will no doubt have seen the various posters dotted around the parish advising one and all of this groups’ Annual Rose Show which will take place in the Village Hall, Staplecross on Saturday June 13th between 2.30pm and 4.15pm. There are lots of classes available for you to consider entering, - you don’t have to be green-fingered, nor an expert, as this show is for everyone - the expert and the novice alike. If you’d like to enter a class, and you don’t have a schedule to hand, - for whatever reason, - Fear Not - the Londis village shop, in Staplecross has a few spare copies -hidden behind the counter, - awaiting your perusal. Please pop in and pick up a show schedule, take a look at all the wide and varied classes there are available for your consideration and just ‘have-a-go’. There truly is a class for everyone, of all ages, and abilities, - so come along and join in. When you’ve decided what class to enter, fill in your form and leave it with the appropriate class entry money, safely sealed in an envelope and duly labelled, back at the shop, ready for collection by (approximately) 5.00pm on Wednesday June 10th. This promises to be a really beautiful little village Horticultural Show, with something for everyone to enjoy and be a part of, so please try and enter a class. DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES: Advance notice of an event being hosted by the STAPLECROSS BONFIRE BOYS which is the next event in their busy calendar. This will be a Mammoth Jumble Sale to be held on Saturday June 20th in the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. All items for donation can be delivered to the Village Hall from 10.0am onwards and the doors will be open for the main event at 2pm that same afternoon. If you have any items for donation and you cannot bring it to the village hall yourself, please contact John on 01580~830744 or Brian on 01580~830570 who will endeavour to arrange for it’s collection. Come along and support this super fund raiser event.

CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday June 7th. at 9.30am. This service will also include Holy Communion. A Family Service will follow directly after at St. Giles church, Bodiam, at 11.15am. There will be NO SERVICE at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross on this day.
