STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: How any-one can say that playing bowls is only for the old and infirm, beats me as this dedicated and very fit club have five (5) more matches arranged for this week alone - many other sports only play once or twice a week in their chosen field. The fixtures for this week are an ‘away’ match at Guestling on Saturday May 30th with a Fun Day arranged for Sunday May 31st. Two more ‘away’ matches have been planned, the first is on Monday June 1st when our team play Gullivers and Wednesday June 3rd.sees them play against Northiam. The Bowls Club round off the week nicely with a match on their home ground at the Club Pavilion, Northiam Road, Staplecross with their opponents being the Stoolball Club and this match commence at 6.15pm on Friday June 5th. If you can spare a small amount of time, please do pop along and support the team you favour. ROTHER RAMBLERS: Not ones for letting the weather,- however odd and unreliable it may be,- stand in the way of their pleasure of strolling around our lovely part of Sussex, the members of Rother Ramblers group have three (3) more walks lined up for our enjoyment this week. Walk no:1 is a 10 mile circular tour of Biddenden via St. Michael’s and will take place on Sunday May 31st Those interested will meet in the Millenium car park in Biddenden OS.EXP.137.TQ850382.(SatNav TN27 8DD) at 10.0am Please note: the car park is just off A274 drive next to Old Mill Court, go past the squash courts to large car park. As usual, a picnic lunch is suggested and David will be your ‘Walk Leader’ for this stroll so please contact him on 01580~852432 for all further details. Walk no: 2 is slightly shorter stroll of only 7 miles and is a superb meander around the beautiful South Downs taking in Wilmington. This will take place on Wednesday June 3rd when all concerned will meet at the car park at Wilmington Priory, Wilmington OS.EXP.123. TQ543041.(SatNav BN26 5SW) at 10.0am. A coffee break and a picnic lunch is again suggested which allows you to take in all the superb views. Last but certainly not least is Walk No:3 which is a delightful 9.5 mile circular meander around Wittersham, a lovely little village well worth exploring at any time. Taking place on Saturday June 6th all those interested in joining this walk are to meet at 10.0am.at the church in Wittersham-with roadside parking nearby. STAPLECROSS & EWHURST GREEN W.I. Making their way to St. Mark’s church room, Northiam Road, Staplecross on Tuesday June 2nd for their usual monthly meeting, starting at 2.30pm.- will be the ladies of this popular social group, the members of the Staplecross & Ewhurst Green W.I. As well as meeting up again with friends old and new the ladies will be looking forward to their Guest Speaker and this month will be the turn of Mr. Nick Wiggins who will be talking about and hopefully showing, “Wood Turning” This will be another unusual subject for the ladies to listen to, but we have never shied away from trying our hands out with new skills, and this one will be no exception. The group have lots of interesting and entertaining ideas and subjects to try out and enjoy as we progress down the W.I. calendar, -- from our own members garden party, and from a variety of speakers to outings, and of course, our extra sub groups like the Book Club, the Lunch Club and of course our Craft Group are always popular. Although we may seem a rather busy group, we will always have time to welcome new members into the fold. STAPLECROSS M.C.P.SCHOOL: That mysterious “Phil” will be visiting this superb little village school once again on Tuesday June 2nd so plea’s are being sent out for everyone to take part in this lovely “Phil” the Bag - fund-raising idea. The school are collecting bags of unwanted clothing; shoes; belts; handbags; linen; bedding and curtains which are then sold and the more that’s weighed, the more that’s paid ! This all goes into the school’s coffers which are then used for the benefit of our children. Any type of bag will be accepted, so please have a rummage through your house, from top to bottom, and see what you can find. This is a grand way of ‘re-cycling’ so please join in. Bags can be left at the school (please leave them nice & neatly, so as not to cause a hazzard to grown-ups and children alike ) anytime during this day and the more the merrier, You get to de-clutter and the school-children get the benefit from your kind gesture, - so everyone wins.

STAPLECROSS STOOLBALL CLUB: Continuing with their busy schedule, the club have another match arranged this week, when they play another ‘away’ match on Tuesday June 2nd. This time their opponents will be Catsfield and the start of the match is 6.45pm. Please if you are in the vicinity, do go along and support our team. NORTHIAM & BROAD OAK PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP: I have received a missive asking me to include this invite within this column as this group have many patients within Staplecross ( and the rest of the parish, no doubt.) An invitation is extended to any-one who may be interested in attending this event, - for whatever reason and will also be warmly welcomed. A talk, entitled “Human Waterworks- and their problems” will be given by Roger Plail, who, incidentally, is a Urologist at the Conquest Hospital, The Ridge, St. Leonards,- and this will be taking place at Northiam Village Hall on Wednesday June 3rd starting at 7.30pm. Enticing refreshments will be undertaken by Northiam W.I. and this promises to be a revealing and interesting talk for any who may be suffering or having any problems in this department. MOBILE LIBRARY: Once again our little Mobile Library van will be visiting our area and this time it will call at Ewhurst Green on Thursday June 4th. It will arrive during the morning at 11.10am and depart at approximately 11.40am. Please do make use of this service, as it helps those that live in our rural areas gain access to all that is on offer within the portals of our main branches. It’s surprising just what is available throughout the service of East Sussex Libraries from books; DVD’s; Audio Tapes; access to the Internet; Newspapers and so much more. Try it and see.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES: Just three (3) quick and gentle reminders of 3 items of interest and importance to some residents of our parish. THE CROSS INN: This popular and friendly little village pub right in the heart of Staplecross village will be holding their next ever competitive ‘Quiz Night’ on Wednesday June 10th. These evenings now have a very good following, so tables will need to be pre-booked, in order to confirm your seat. These quiz nights have turned out to be very successful events and with delicious food served during the interval at a very reasonable cost of £6:50 this promises to be yet another great evening for one and all. Please ring any of the staff on 01580~830217 to book your table and then just come along and enjoy the warm and friendly (& maybe just a little bit competitive) evening. - A really great night out

EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL : Your newly elected Parish Council - which encompasses Cripps Corner, Staplecross as well as Ewhurst Green, will be holding their usual monthly meeting, on Thursday June 11th. but this time the venue will be at the HERDMAN PAVILION in Ewhurst Green. and NOT at St. Mark’s church room, in Staplecross. This is to hopefully, encourage more residents of Ewhurst Green to attend the Council meeting and see what the council proposes doing on your behalf for the coming year, and possibly become more involved in what will take place. These meetings are open to the public and press alike and allows everyone the perfect opportunity to come along and have your say, to meet the councillors - from all 3 levels ( EPC, RDC and ESCC.) as well as our PCSO. Demi. You’ll be able to state any concerns you may have and question, query, comment and/or complain on any or all things going on within our parish. The starting time for these meetings, have once more reverted back to 7.30pm and your new Parish Council look forward to meeting you there. EWHURST, STAPLECROSS & BODIAM GARDEN SOCIETY: as I mentioned last week, our own little horticultural group will be hosting their annual Rose Show on Saturday June 13th between 2.30pm and 4.15pm. Taking place in the Village Hall in Staplecross and as previously stated there will be a huge and very varied range of classes in which to enter. So something for everyone, - not just for the knowledgeable and deeply green-fingered! but for those who just simply love gardening. If you are considering entering a class (or more)- and of course you were !, - and you’ve mislaid, recycled, thrown out or simply just haven’t got a schedule, - fear not, - all is not lost, as there are spare copies of the show schedule available together with the rules of entries, (which are really guidelines to help you make the most of your entry.) behind the counter of the Village shop (Londis) in Staplecross. Once you have decided which class you would like to take part in, you may also leave the completed class entry and the appropriate class entry money safely sealed in an envelope and duly labelled, here ready for collection. These entries will be collected at approximately 5.00pm on Wednesday June 10th. New exhibitors are always very warmly welcomed and it is such a lovely event to support. CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the Parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday May 31st. Trinity Sunday. at 9.30.am. This service will also include Holy Communion. There will be NO SERVICE at St. Giles church, Bodiam, on this day but a service will follow directly after at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross at 6.00pm for Evening Praise.
