EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL: Well the furore is over, all the talking has been done, the votes all over the country have now been counted and the results are now in. Huw Merriman is now our new M.P - Tony Ganly is our continuing Representative for Rother District Council and as you are no doubt aware, Brigitte Fifield, John Simmons and Robin Redsull decided not to stand again for the Ewhurst Parish Council posts. Many grateful thanks must be extended to each of these, as they have all worked tirelessly, on your behalf, over the previous 4 years to help make the lovely little parish of ours a better place to live, work and play in. The people who were elected at last Thursdays (7th) election to serve on this council for the next four (4) years are as follows: Dor CATT; Bill HOOPER; Jacqui HYETT; Anne REED; Ian STEPHENSON; Maggie WHITAKER and David YOUNG;. Sadly this newspaper’s edition came out too late to inform you of the Inaugurate meeting for the new Ewhurst Parish Council which took place last evening 14th). Every month, there will be a Parish Council meeting which is open to the public and press alike and the next meeting will be held in June -(actual date, at present time to be declared) at 7.00pm at the usual meeting place of St. Mark’s Church Room, Northiam Road, Staplecross. This could be a perfect time to come along and meet your new council members if you missed out last night. As always, representatives from East Sussex County Council (Angharad Davies) and Rother District Council (Tony Ganly) , - as well as our PCSO Demi, representing the Police Force, will generally, also be in attendance. During the ‘Public Question Time’, you’ll be invited to put any concerns, comments, questions or queries you may have to the new parish councillors and to any of the other relevant bodies. Check out our website at www.ewhurst.info or contact our brilliant Parish Clerk Richard Farhall at [email protected] in the first instance, regarding anything that’s relevant to our parish.

STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: Still on sport, but of a less energetic and less rushing variety, but very skilled nevertheless, - our own bowls club will be playing three (3) matches this week. Beginning with a ‘home’ fixture on their immaculate green lawns at their Club Pavilion, Northiam Road, Staplecross. the first match will take place on Sunday May 17th when they play Westfield. The second match on Wednesday May 20th will find them with an ‘away’ match at Battle but they’ll be back home again, on home turf, so to speak, for a match against Pett the following day Thursday May 21st. All home matches commence at 2.30pm, so if you can spare a short while to come along and support the team, please do as this is always very much appreciated. New members are always warmly welcomed and if you’d like more information on what is involved as a player, or you’d like a ‘taster’ session, or you’d just like to be a helpful supporter, please contact Evelyn for the details either at 01580~830107 or [email protected]

S.C.A.T.S.: Our very own amateur dramatic group will be holding their A.G.M. in the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross on Tuesday May 19th at 7.30pm. This very small, but very dedicated group are currently going through rather a lean time at present due to circumstances beyond their control and are desperately seeking new blood in the form of anyone willing and interested in helping to keep this little group going. People of all ages, abilities, and gender, both ‘In the Spotlight’ ~ perhaps ‘treading the boards’ in a variety of roles or Out of the Spotlight’ ~ perhaps behind the curtains or in front of house, are both needed and warmly welcomed. The future of this fantastic little variety group which has given so many of us, so many evenings of enjoyment over the years, through numerous plays, pantomimes and performances rests in your hands. If we cannot keep S.C.A.T.S. alive and running, the group will almost certainly end up closing down and as a result will lose their charity status. Please don’t let this happen, this little theatrical group has been an integral part of our parish for a great number of years and it would be such a great shame to lose it. Please come along to the A.G.M. and give us your views, please offer your help and support, tell us what you would like to see performed here and how best we can go forward. WE NEED YOU !, so come along and help keep it all going.

STAPLECROSS LUNCHEON CLUB: Once more this small but very friendly dining group will be meeting again on Wednesday May 20th in the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. Meeting, greeting and eating at 12.30pm the delectable menu awaiting us today will be Cod with a parsley sauce and all the trimmings followed by that increasingly popular desert Banoffi Pie. Yummy !. Only a few ‘rules’ apply, - you have to be over a certain age (namely over 50 years young) and wherever possible notify the organisers if you’re unable to attend the lunch, -- this allows the caterers to reduce any possible food wastage as well as unnecessary cost in time, money and effort- and to pay a miserly amount of £6:00 per person for a delicious 2 course lunch including tea/coffee to follow. New diners are always most welcome to join us and this is not just limited to residents of Ewhurst Parish as many diners live beyond our borders , proving once again that this little dining group still maintains to provide quality food in pleasant surroundings amongst congenial company. If you’d like to join us, then please contact either Sally on 01580~830000 or Dennis on 01580~831816 who would love to set a place for you at our table.

ROTHER RAMBLERS: Still ‘out & about-ing’ are the members of this stalwart walking group, incorporating - fresh air, fitness and friendship. MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICE: It’s always lovely to see the little Mobile Library van parked within our three villages, allowing residents in the more rural areas access to all that the Main Branch Libraries have to offer, only on a smaller scale. This week, the van will be arriving in Cricketers Field, Staplecross on Thursday May 21st at 1.50pm and will then depart at 2.20pm for Cripps Corner, where it will arrive on the car park of the White Hart Inn at 2.30pm and depart at 2.55pm for it’s last call of the day. This amazing service and one of the few that is still FREE to every resident, is so vital to those that are unable to make use of the main branches. It gives everyone access to the Internet, Audio stories, newspapers & bulletins. It can be of help in many ways from aiding homework and studies, to hobbies, projects and other such like interests. Please make use of this service, ~ Libraries are more than just books.

SEDLESCOMBE GREEN W.I. I have had a notice from a friend & colleague to remind me of an event that they are hosting in the very near future, and remembering that many residents within our parish enjoy this type of entertainment, I thought I would just bring it to your attention in case it would be of interest to you. The ladies from this particular W.I. are hosting a ‘Quiz Night’ in the Village Hall in Sedlescombe on Friday May 29th - 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Teams of six (6) are invited to come along and join them and the cost of a entry ticket is £8:00 per head, AND this does include a fish and chip supper with tea/coffee !. If you would like to come and join them, please let Andrea know as soon as possible to avoid missing out on what promises to be a very enjoyable evening all round. Please get in touch with Andrea at [email protected] or on 01424-871625. If you are unable to make up a full team of 6, just let Andrea know, who’ll do her best to arrange the compilation of a full team with other ‘loose’ guests. These events are usually such fun evenings, so do see about getting up a team and giving it a go !. Have fun !
