FLOWER,FRUIT & VEGETABLE SHOW: Just a gentle but quick reminder that tomorrow, Saturday September 6th is the date for the Ewhurst, Staplecross & Bodiam Garden Society’s Annual Horticulural Show and will be held in the Staplecross Village Hall on Northiam Road, from 2pm onwards. There may still be time to add your entries, but be quick, as the staging for these entries is between 9.0am & 11.0am.(-late entries by 10.30am.) on Saturday. As well as the usual Class exhibits to wow you, such as the home produce and handicraft, there will be other various stalls to tempt and delight you, for example, a great raffle, a delicious home-made cakes stall, as well as the mandatory tea, coffee & soft drinks counter to help sustain you. Any produce that’s been home grown, baked, preserved or crafted has the option to be sold. These items should be previously priced and will be sold on your behalf with 90% going to you and 10% going to the ESB Garden Society .Entry forms with schedules, etc can be obtained from ‘The Stores’, Staplecross. These completed entries must also be returned to this shop. Non society members are also most welcome to exhibit. BODIAM TRIATHLON: On Sunday September 7th. beginning at the early hour of 7.0am sees the return of this fast becoming popular event.This is the 3rd stage of this sprint distance triathlon where competitors will be swimming 500m around the Castle moat, followed by a short dash to the transition area, grab hold of a bike, already prepared & held for you, jump on and whizz off to Staplecross, Northiam and Sandhurst for a 22km bike ride before arriving back at Bodiam Castle. If that’s not enough, the last stage will be a 6km run off road, exiting the castle grounds, heading East before looping South, joining up with the River Rother and returning back to the finish line along the river.The registration for this event will open at 06.30am. Swim waves will commence at 07.30am and then every 20 minutes with each wave being a complete mix of abilities. This fantastic event promises to be a great day out for people of all ages. An open-air Bar-B-Q is planned alongside the marquees’ at the Castle itself so plenty of culinary delights on offer. HOSPICE ANNUAL HORSE SHOW: Taking place on the same day, Sunday September 7th. but commencing at a more laid back time of 9.0am. ( - which means many of us can still enjoy our Sunday lay-in !) the St. Michael’s Hospice Riding Club’s Annual Horse Show, which will be held at Horns Cross, Catsfield will draw a great number of people out in attendance, as not only do we love to support such a worthy cause, but we also love to see these beautiful and noble creatures in action.There will be many classes to watch including Novice; Junior & Intermediate jumping, and Novelty Horse & Pony classes during the morning and a Fun Dog show in the afternoon. As well as Hunter classes, and classes for complete novices & beginners, there will be a gymkhana and clear round jumping, always a favourite for all abilities. In addition to all this choice there will be a ‘Dr. Who’ themed fancy dress class. Please try to spare some of your precious weekend to come along and support this event as many of us know just how vital a service St. Michaels Hospice provides. Arranged for the following weekend of Saturday and Sunday September 13th & 14th these amazing boat races will be played out on Bewl Water. ROTHER RAMBLERS: Out in force to make the most of this lovely autumnal weather are those members of the Rother Ramblers with two delightful and contrasting walks lined up for us to enjoy this week. First up is a 10 mile circular stroll from Birling Gap and this bracing walk is arranged for Sunday September 7th. Those interested in joining this walk will be meeting up at 10.0am in the Birling Gap public car park (SatNav BN200AB). A picnic lunch is suggested and as usual dogs are welcome to enjoy this ramble with you. Val is the ‘walk leader’ and you can contact her on: 01424~843039 for all details. Walk No: 2 is an 11 mile Stonegate circular and has been arranged for Tuesday September 9th. After meeting at the Stonegate Village Hall (SatNav TN57DZ) the party will set off at 10.0am for what promises to be a lovely walk, taking in some delightful scenery along the way. As appears to be the usual way, a picnic lunch is suggested and of course, your doggy pal can enjoy this walk with you. BOWLS CLUB: Also continuing enjoying the last of the summer sunshine are those members of the Staplecross Bowls Club with two more matches arranged for this week. Both fixtures are ‘away’ matches. The first is for Tuesday September 9th when their opponents are Horam. The club’s next match is on Thursday September 11th when the teams play Sidley Martlets. PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION: The Sussex Wildlife Trust has been inviting entries for their 2014 photography competion all through summer; and this is a timely reminder that the closing date Wednesday September 10th. is drawing near. Aptly entitled “Simply the Best” the judges of this competition will be looking for beautiful and awe-inspiring images which shows the best of our wide and varied wildlife and our spectacular and unique landscape. The top twelve photographs will be featured in the Trust’s online calendar but the overall winning picture will be shown in “Wildlife” the Trust’s members’ magazine. The competition is free to enter and is open to everyone - of all ages and abilities. EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL: Following their summer recess, the Ewhurst Parish Council will once again resume their monthly meetings. This will take place on Thursday September 11th at the newer time of 7pm. at St. Mark’s Church Room, Northiam Road, Staplecross. It will give residents of Ewhurst Parish a golden opportunity to come along and have your say as these meetings are open to the public and press alike. As well as your own Parish Councillors, there are usually representatives from the Police in the form of our PCSO - the Rother District Council (Mr. Tony Ganly) and East Sussex County Council (Mrs Angharad Davies) During the permitted “Public Question Time” you’ll be able to question, query, complain or comment on anything that is going on within this parish community. We are here to listen to you and to take note, as we are all working on your behalf to make our community a better, safer and happier place in which to live, work and enjoy being in. Just look for the banner outside,- there is usually adequate parking and everyone will be most welcome.

JUMBLE SALE: Following the advance notice of last week, the Staplecross Bonfire Society would like to advertise a mammoth Jumble Sale which will take place on Saturday September 13th in the Staplecross Village Hall. The doors will be thrown open at 2pm to admit all those clever people looking for a great bargain. Alongside of all the ‘goodies’ on offer for a few pence, there will be a raffle table, and a cake stall full of yummy offerings, as well as the mandatory tea counter. Jumble may be brought to the hall in the morning of the sale, but if anyone has any jumble which they cannot bring to the hall themselves, please contact John at [email protected] who will arrange this for you.

“BIRD DAY”. The Pocket Park , situated in Hughenden Road, Hastings, is a charity run operation and has a number of events planned - one of which is planned for this Saturday September 13th. Entitled “Bird Day” - most appropiate as they’ll be making bird feeders and doing other nature activities. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, and if you have any bird food that you’d like to donate, the organisors would really appreciate it. CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the Parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great , Ewhurst Green on Sunday September 7th.Trinity 12. with a service at 9.30am which will include Holy Communion. A Family Service at St. Giles church, Bodiam will follow at 11.15am. There will be NO SERVICE taken at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross today.
