Staplecross

I hope you have all had a lovely day off with our second Spring break and our first Bank Holiday and that you are making the most of this (sadly, short lived, I’m told) glorious warm weather. The gardens are beginning to fill up a bit now with some beautiful blooms on show, and making the English countryside, a real pleasure to be out and about in and in particular, our own special part of it.

Those stalwart lovers of the great outdoors, ~ the members of the Rother Ramblers are certainly making the most of this eagerly awaited lovely weather we are currently enjoying, despite -or in spite of -the downturn predicted by those in the know at the Met. Office, the ramblers will be out in (almost) all weather conditions strolling our beautiful countryside in all directions. The walk they have planned this week takes place on Wednesday May 14th at 6.30pm. Entitled “Herstmonceux to Bodle Street Green - & back” and comprises of a beautiful short evening circular meander of just 5 miles amid lovely scenery all around. This could be just the walk for you, if you’re considering joining in with the local walking group for the first of the seasons evening strolls. The group will be meeting in the car park, behind the Woolpack Pub, in Herstmonceux. (SatNav BN274JR) at 6.30pm. A refreshment stop is proposed in the middle, -or at the end,-or both I’m informed!, and naturally your doggy pal can enjoy the walk alongside of you. For further details please contact the ‘Walk Leaders’ who are Rita & Lionel on 01424~753452 and who would love to welcome new faces on any of their proposed walks. Please note for any interested party that the walk proposed for the 21st of May has now been CANCELLED.

The Mobile Library will once more be wending its way through our three little villages providing not just books for loan but so much more. Thursday May 15th will find the little van continuing on it’s fortnightly visits, and arriving via Mountfield,- it will be in the car park at the White Hart Inn, in Cripps Corner at approximately 10.15am to 10.40am for anyone who wishes to avail themselves of this essential free service before heading off to Sedlescombe and then arriving at Cricketers Field, in Staplecross from 11.50am to 12.20pm. After meandering through Brede, Northiam and Bodiam, it will finish at it’s final destination of the day at Ewhurst Green at approximately 3.40pm and 4.10pm. Please do make use of this vital service as plans are afoot to re-structure and streamline it. Remember~ use it or lose it.
