The Table Top Sale takes place tomorrow in the village hall between 10am to 2pm and with about 20 tables booked, there will be plenty of bargains so come along and find just what you have been looking for! Delicious refreshments will be on offer with coffee and cakes and you can try your luck on the tombola.The popular U3A organisation open to all those who have entered retirement but still wish to keep busy and afford themselves of the many activities available has its monthly meeting on Monday (June 3) in Battle Memorial Hall at 10am for 1030am. The talk will be of interest to those who remember the war in Battle as it is entitled “Battle of Britain and Battle”.

Members of the Women’s Institute meet on Tuesday (June 4) in the Church Room, Northiam Road, Staplecross, when the guest speaker will be Sally Baldwin telling the fascinating story of the rescue of a dog from Afghanistan. The meeting begins at 2.30pm when visitors and prospective members are very welcome to attend.

On Sunday June 9, the lovely gardens of “Preachers” in Ewhurst Green will be open to the public between 10.30am and 4.30pm. There will be coffees, teas and lunches available in the garden.

The annual Rose Show held by Ewhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam Garden Society takes place on Saturday June 15 at 2pm. Everyone is encouraged to “have a go” and enter one of the many classes - not all roses, but many varieties of flowers and vegetables, as well as pot plants. Children have their own Classes to include Playschool up to Year 11. Classes.

It is some years when I was persuaded by Joan Harding at the Observer to take on village voice coverage for the parish of Ewhurst. Having done the same job for a sister paper in Hampshire for several years, I thought I had served my sentence! I little thought that I would exceed the time I had done before. However, the time has come to move on as many will have realised from the sale board outside Wodens Wood. I am moving to Buckinghamshire to be closer to family before they put me in a Home for the Bewildered.

It has been an interesting time and coupled with serving on the parish council for 12 years, I certainly got to know a lot of people. It has been a super community to live in especially in the dark days when Ben was so ill and the many who helped to get me through that time, for which I shall be eternally grateful.
