Last Saturday’s jumble sale was a resounding success with plenty of donations as well as helpers, both in the morning laying out the goodies and manning the stalls in the afternoon. Hilary Ganly expressed her appreciation for all the help and support given which resulted in £600 for the village hall coffers that provides a venue for the many activities held there during the year.

There were thanks to a couple, thinking they had bought a bargain on the toy stall, who returned a DS (to the uninitiated a hand held games console) of a little girl who had mislaid it.

There is an old time music hall evening planned for Saturday March 23 at Staplecross village hall in aid of the new pavilion at the Herdman Field. Café style tables of 8 or 10 at £12 a head which includes supper and there will be a licensed bar. Make up a table or buy individual tickets to join a table and make new friends. Tickets (there are only 140) are on sale from Glenys Griffiths 01580-830491 so book today. The doors open at 6.45pm. Song sheets will be provided so everyone can join in.

All those who are kicking themselves that they missed Saturday’s jumble sale, do not despair there’s another one on the way a week tomorrow on Saturday March 16. This is being held by the Staplecross and Ewhurst Bonfire Society.

The Bonfire Society celebrated another successful year when the members held their 43rd annual dinner and dance in the village hall at the end of last month. Those who want to plan a year ahead might like to make a note that the next celebration dinner will be held on February 24 2014. This year’s dinner attracted over seventy members and supporters. The dinner included a tasty four course meal including chicken curry or a juicy steak and ale pie. Afterwards it was dancing the night away to local band “Sarah G” that has a good reputation for getting everyone into a good mood.

A big thank you was given to Doreen and Roy and to all those members and supporters of the society who continue to support events throughout the year and help to see the society grow in strength. A final thank you to all who donated raffle prizes and anyone who helped in making the event such a success.

Jive comes to Staplecross village hall on Sunday afternoon March 17 when the Charleston Jive Squad holds a Tea Dance 2-5pm for an afternoon of top tunes from the 1940’s and 1950’s. The in-house DJs are Swing Out Si, Miss Peaches and Darcie. The music of Glen Miller and many others will be played. The admission charge is £6 to include tea, coffee and cake.
