Staplecross, Ewhurst Green and Cripps Corner Village Voice

This Sunday, 17, is Apple Day in the parish and anyone wanting to make juice from the bumper harvest of apples this year should go to the village hall between 10am and 4pm when the parish’s apple presser will be there.

Children always love this occasion and take part in operating the presser so it is a good family occasion.

Cookers or eaters are suitable and clean plastic cartons are ideal for the juice. As a guide 1kg apples yields 400ml juice. Also useful to take along are a chopping board and a sharp knife (no peeling required).

Should anyone have a large quantity of fruit and prefer to borrow and do the pressing at home, then you should contact Maggie Whitaker on 830041 for details.

Alastair Neill’s cycle ride around Sussex churches last month in aid of the Sussex Historic Churches Trust raised £381. This figure was an all time record for Alastair who “gets on his bike” each September for a worthwhile cause that yields half of the proceeds for our own parish church. Alastair wishes to thank all those who supported him and a special thank you to Dave Perkins for collecting monies in Ewhurst Green.

Preparations are in full swing for Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society’s Big Night in a fortnight’s time on Saturday 30, when there will be the usual torchlight procession from Staplecross to Cripps Corner, before returning to the bonfire site in Staplecross for the lighting of the bonfire and fireworks. Now is the time to prepare for fancy dress costumes for the youngsters and those young in heart.

Staplecross Luncheon Club takes place next Wednesday 20, when a warm welcome awaits members aged 50+ to enjoy resident cook’s culinary delights, for only £5.00 for a cooked meal. Anyone in the parish wishing to join this popular club should first contact Anka on 830260 or Dennis on 830816.
