The Steyning Downland Scheme is launching the event at The Star Inn, in High Street, on Friday, January 24.

Volunteer administrator Jane O’Neill said: “Come and discover more about the night sky with local astronomers and look through some powerful telescopes.”

The free event, which runs from 6pm to 7.30pm, is suitable for all the family and no booking is required.

It is linked with the BBC’s Stargazing Live, where Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain encourage people to look at the sky and find out more about the universe.

The informal evening will offer the chance to learn some of the lesser-known constellations and look through some powerful telescopes.

People are advised to dress warmly and put on study footwear, as the stargazing will take place in the pub garden and at the Rifle Range, part of the downland scheme and a short walk away, depending on the weather.

Voluntary donations of £1 to the Steyning Downland Scheme are invited and the event will be followed by folk music at The Star Inn.
