Stay away from Lewes Bonfire if you’re from out of town, says council

It’s just a month to go before Bonfire and Lewes District Council is urging people who are not from the town to stay away.

Instead they are being asked to attend their own Bonfire events.

The council is also reminding residents that this event is not suitable for children and pets.

Lewes will be difficult to get in and out of on November 5.

On street parking will be suspended on certain streets in the town from 3pm and certain roads will be closed from 5pm until 3am. For a map of the road closure areas visit

Vehicles must be removed from these routes or risk being towed away if they are not.

The council said if you have a parking permit and need assistance on alternative parking locations for the evening contact The Parking Shop, Causeway House, Wellers Yard, 46 – 48 Malling Street. BN7 2RH.

Any vehicles that remain will be towed from 4pm.

For the first time Waterloo fire site at Malling Brooks will be a paid for event which may cause further congestion and queues. Access to the site will be via Brooks Road.

Sussex Police reminded people throwing of fireworks in the street would not be tolerated.
