Step On It for Breast Cancer

BREAST Cancer Campaign is encouraging everyone in England to step up to beat breast cancer this August bank holiday by taking part in their individual walking event, STEP ON IT.

The challenge is to walk a step for every person diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK this year, that's forty-six thousand steps (approximately twenty three miles) in forty-six hours between Saturday 29 and Monday 31 August 2009.

This can be done individually, with friends, colleagues or simply by walking the dog, asking family and friends to sponsor every step taken to help Campaign to continue funding vital breast cancer research.

"During the last bank holiday in May we were thrilled to see hundreds of people sign up to STEP ON IT and raise vital funds for breast cancer research. Everyone who took part said they loved the walking challenge and most have vowed to continue walking as part of a healthier lifestyle.

"It's a really easy idea and a great challenge for anyone who loves to walk, so why not make the most of the last days of summer and start counting your steps to support everyone that will be diagnosed in the UK this year?"

Not only is STEP ON IT a simple, fun challenge but walking is great exercise that's good for health; it helps prevent weight gain and boosts energy levels promoting a feeling of general well being.

Regular exercise is also important in reducing the risk of a number of diseases including breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, colon cancer, and osteoporosis.
