The 1140 (Steyning) Squadron, Air Training Corps, braved the rain and raised a record amount for the Royal British Legion.

The event, held at Mayberry Garden Centre in Portslade on Saturday, raised more than £350 despite some of the worst rainfall in recent weeks.

The cadets were washing vehicles for visitors to the family-run Tate’s garden centre in return for a donation, which was presented to the legion at the Remembrance parade the next day.

Mayberry manager Mark Brumfitt said: “The cadets did a great job despite the weather and I would like to thank all our customers who supported them to raise a great amount for a superb cause.

“Hopefully, next year might be a little drier.”
