Steyning man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

The victim was in an Indian takeaway in Orchard Parade between 6.10pm and 6.35pm on Saturday (September 12) when a man came in to order some food.

He sat next to the girl and touched her leg. The victim, who was with a woman, decided to wait outside. When they went back in to collect their order, the man fell forward onto the girl and grabbed her breast.

Police were called and a 56 year-old man from Steyning was arrested nearby on suspicion of sexual assault. He was released on police bail until October 20.

PC Emma Jeacock said: “We believe there was a woman in the restaurant at the time with her two children, and we would really like to speak with her.

“Any witnesses can email [email protected] or call 101 quoting reference 1221 of 12/09.”
