Steyning students lead the way

SIXTH-form students from Steyning Grammar School have been chosen for a Rotary Club scheme.

Year 12 students Yetunde Alabi and Jack Tebbett have been selected for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) scheme.

The pair, who are being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Young Steyning and Henfield, will join almost 50 other students, including 10 from foreign countries, in Buckinghamshire next year for the six-day course.

Club president David Kinsella said: "The club has sponsored RYLA candidates for a number of years in attending a scheme that assists young people in choosing a path towards constructive citizenship, by encouraging them to participate in activities that build their confidence and self-esteem."

The course is designed to help students develop leadership skills and includes activities such as orienteering, assault courses, problem solving, night initiative tests, raft building and a final night gala performance.

Both students are looking forward to the challenge.
