Stirring tea-drinkers into action

BUPA Care Homes want to stir tea drinkers into action and support a campaign which helps tackle the problems of isolation and loneliness among millions of pensioners in Britain.

Bupa Care Home's 'Communi-tea Week' is a national initiative supporting older people, who may be struggling on their own, by providing a friendly face and reaching out to them over a cup of tea.

Throughout the week, from Monday 19th April, older people across the country are invited to join hundreds of tea-related events, from tea dances to afternoon tea parties, taking place in Bupa care homes.

Local communities are also encouraged to host tea parties and invite someone who lives alone, whether it is a neighbour or a friend, and hope as many people as possible will support Communi-tea Week by raising their mugs in support of this worthy cause.

Bupa's Community Affairs Manager Siobhan Drane said:

"This is a great opportunity to combat loneliness among older people and make a real difference to those in need of company."

Communi-tea events to be held in Bexhill include an invitation from Ancaster Court, 24, Hastings Road on 21st April, 2.30-4pm.

Entertainment, provided by Pianist Andy Robertson, will be followed by afternoon tea. Call (01424) 213532 for more details.
