Storrington allotments row to go to ballot

PRESSURE from hundreds of angry Storrington residents has prompted a public ballot on plans to sell off a 20-plot allotment site in Amberley Road and develop it for housing.

The decision was made at a meeting of Storrington and Sullington Parish Council on Thursday night when the council bowed to public opinion.

Residents are being told by the parish council that a ballot, with voting on issues ranging from allotments to traffic wardens will be held, with forms sent out in the post.

They will have until July 9 to return them to allocated points around the village.

Residents are furious about plans to sell the allotment site for an estimated 1million, with the parish council suggesting that some of the money should be used to pay for sewerage improvements, whichought to be funded by Southern Water.

Storrington has been waiting for more than ten years for Southern Water to provide the necessary improvements in the village.
