Storrington is set to bloom

Storrington in Bloom 2016 is up and running.

The first clean-up (Clean for the Queen’s Birthday) was done with lots of local support and enthusiasm. We are sure she would have approved! The second clean-up will be on July 3.

Look out for posters and get involved by helping.

The main competition entry is in the Town Centre category of the Britain in Bloom Competition. Last year Storrington was awarded a silver gilt and this year’s aim is to repeat or better that. Judging will be on July 7 and with the help of our sponsors, volunteers, residents and businesses this can be achieved.

As well as the main entry, there will be a number of local competitions to be judged in late July and August. The theme this year will be ‘Bright and beautiful’.

Categories include a children’s wheelbarrow competition, best allotment, best business window and best business external area.

Entry forms for the residential categories: best front garden and best community area, can be collected from May 16 from Joanna’s Boutique Tearoom, High Street or from The Village Florist, West Street or from the Storrington in Bloom website storringtoninbloom.co.uk

So come on all you budding gardeners – now is the time to show off! Don’t forget you can also nominate a front garden of one of your neighbours.

The plants for the main competition are being purchased from The Village Nurseries, West Chiltington, where everything is grown on site. They are very kindly making up the baskets which will be hung on the lampposts over the weekend 14/15 May with the help of a volunteer team including Officers from the local Fire Station. Planting of the village centre flower beds will be done towards the end of May, again with more plants from The Village Nursery and the planters will be prepared by local organisation Greenfingers. It is a real team effort from our village.

The children of Rydon School are playing an important part at this very moment by designing and painting flags to be hung in the village for the whole of July. It will be a very pretty

sight. Yet again volunteer helpers with ladders will be coming to the rescue by hanging the flags.
