Over 150 people including Town Mayor Cllr Paul Lendon took the opportunity to visit the colourful, spectacular gardens, which are sight to behold and, are lovingly tended solely by owners Bill and Margaret van Draat, or at least Margaret claims modestly, "90% of the time."

The gardens are also home to three Alpacas, an aviary, hens, chickens and guinea pigs.

BALI's fight is against proposed landfill at the Ashdown brickworks site.

Cllr Lendon said he feels that BALI, "now need to come up with some inventive ideas as to how the site could be better used. For example they have the Eden project in the South West of England. We need something and unusual that is going to enhance the area."

The money raised will go towards the BALI 'War Chest' fund to be used in the event of needing to continue the fight in court, to pay for a barrister and costs.

BALI fund raiser Pauline Rosner said: "We want people to be aware of this fight and to continue to support us."

She added that they are, "desperately looking for more helpers to help us with this fight. And, we'd all like to give a big thank you to Bill and Margaret van Draat and everyone who has given us tremendous support today."
