Strawberry cream teas

TEA on the lawn, that quintessentially English summer pleasure, has been a comparatively rare achievement in 2007.

But though there was a little too much of the wind, there was enough of the sun on Saturday to make the NSC strawberry cream tea a resounding success.

The absence of rain helped.

And the setting, in the beautiful and ever-improving gardens of Bill and Margaret van Draat's home at Freezeland Farm, put the finishing touch to a lovely afternoon.

A cake stall, tombola, brick-a-brac, clothing and home-made jam stalls added to the attractions of an afternoon which also featured croquet.

Chairman Edna Harker said that funds raised go to key local projects such as the child protection unit at Silverhill, St Leonards, which cares for disadvantaged and abused youngsters.

The event raised 374.
