Street lights could be switched off at night

BATTLE residents are to be consulted on plans to switch off the towns street lights in the early hours of the morning.

The town council is currently considering whether to introduce part night-lighting in Battle.

This would see street lights switched off between midnight and 5.30am.

The move would save the council money and reduce its carbon footprint.

Similar measures implemented in Heathfield and Uckfield recently have been hailed a success by East Sussex County Council, which has responsibilty for street lighting in both those towns.

Battle Town Council will be launching a major public consultation on their proposals shortly.
