Stroke victims set to reachnew heights

PEOPLE around Bognor Regis recovering from strokes have the chance to go up in the world thanks to councillors.

The town's stroke support group has been given 442 to pay for a trip to the Spinnaker Tower which soars above Portsmouth.

The grant has been awarded by the Joint Western Arun area committee of councillors from parish, district and county level.

It was among nearly 6,000 handed out at the committee's latest meeting.

The other awards were 1,000 to the Hotham Park Heritage Trust towards the cost of staging next month's country fair, 300 to Pagham and West Sussex Wildfowling and Conservation Society to replace a rescue dinghy, 750 to Aldwick Preservation Society to replace steps at Aldwick Duck Pond and 3,500 to improve CCTV coverage at Arun Leisure Centre.

The committee has 22,020 from West Sussex County Council to grant during this financial year. The money will go to schemes which help the council to meet its priorities.

Committee chairman Cllr George Blampied said groups should submit their applications.

'We want to help as many community groups as possible because of the valuable contribution they make,' he stated.
