Strong wind strips County Mall sign down to '˜Ma'

High winds have torn down the lettering from a County Mall sign opposite Crawley station leaving only the letters '˜Ma'.

Firefighters were called to reports of steel plates in a precarious position near the station just before noon today (December 30).

By the time they arrived the gales had blown down all but one of the plates.

A number of them lay scattered in the car park below.

Updates to follow.
