Student killed going to protest

AN 18-year-old French student was killed last week when her bicycle was hit by two cars near Hickstead.

She had been cycling with a group of friends to take part in a protest outside an arms factory at Moulsecoomb in Brighton.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway of the A23 as it approaches the junction with the A2300.

The cyclist, whose identity was not revealed, was hit by a vehicle that was joining the slip road. She was then hit by a following vehicle and died at the scene.

A 55-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and subsequently bailed. The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated.
