Students' artwork on display

A-level art students in Bognor Regis have showed off their work to their families.

The sixth formers at the town's community college exhibited the paintings, sculptures, drawings and sketches at a three-day display last week. The exhibition also enabled an examiner to assess the work for the students' A and AS grades later this summer.

College head of art Paula Fahy said she expected this year's students to do well. She stated: 'They have really worked hard and the exhibition is a celebration for them with their families.

'It's nice to see their work on display.

'They don't usually get to see their work like this. It's good for them to learn the art of displaying pieces and what works and what doesn't.

'About half the A and AS students last year got A and B grades.

'So, this group has a lot to live up to but they are a strong group as well.'

Some 30 students had their work on show on the upper floor of The Arena sports centre. Among them was Chloe Dowsett (18). Her works included paintings on the theme of imprisonment.

'All my family have done art and it's my best subject,' she stated.

'I enjoy it because I'm good at it. It's not about making art. It's the effect of the finished product that I enjoy.'

She intends to spent a year on an art foundation course at Brighton College from September before she starts an art degree.
